Training diary 2012 for Lieutenant Thorbjørn Hein
Inspired by this diary from 2007 (text in Danish), I have started one like it for the next big challenge: MAKONI 2012, the march from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Nijmegen, The Netherlands, in one go.

Why a diary?
Keeping a training diary is, at least for me, motivating; it inspires one to strive persistently for the next milestone, so to speak, like e.g. the next 100 km mark, and so on. Also it's a good excuse for me to write small, narcissistic reports from the training sessions, which more often than not are conducted alone. Hehe. Links for the reports can be found at the end of each diary entry - if I have bothered to write a report, of course. No matter what language they are in, there will be some photos to enjoy; I hope to get many wonderful nature shots during this spring.
Goal of the spring: 1000 km
To be fully ready for MAKONI on 30 June, the aim is to have done 1000 km, or 621 miles, of training before that date. Last time around with MAKONI, I just made it, with a total of 1011.6 km reached on 21 June 2007. March, April, and May will be more busy for me this year than five years ago, so it will be a real challenge to complete the mission. To compensate, I have started out training in earnest earlier than in 2007.
Update, 30 June:
So, the goal of 1000 km before MAKONI was reached already on 10 June. All in all I marched 1227.8 kilometres before MAKONI, almost all of them in the four and half month long period from mid February to now.
Update, 11 August:
With the completion of the famous Dodentocht 100 km march in Belgium, all preset marching goals of 2012 have been achieved. Everything from here will be added bonuses! Maybe a year total of 3,000 km is possible, but let's see.

Idet denne blogpost er på engelsk, bruger jeg komma som tusindtalsseparator og punktum som decimalseparator (fx 3,000.6 km er tretusinde kilometer og sekshundrede kilometer i engelsk sprogbrug). På dansk er det omvendt: Der er det punktum, der er tusindtalsseparator og komma til decimaler. Derfor på dansk 3.000,6 km. Mange kan ikke finde ud af det, men brug denne dejlige service. Det ville jeg bare lige understrege, hej-hej.
